Dr. Acquavella is currently
Executive Director and Head, Global Epidemiology
at Amgen, Inc. in Thousand Oaks California. He worked previously for the US Environmental Protection Agency, the University of California, Exxon Biomedical Sciences, and Monsanto Company. He is an adjunct professor of Epidemiology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst School of Public Health and at the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina. His current research focus is pharmacoepidemiology after more than 20 years of concentration in environmental and occupational epidemiology.
Dr. Acquavella served as ACE Secretary, an Executive Board member, and Chair of the Admissions Committee from 1996-2003. He also served on the Communications, Membership, and Education Committees and, from 2002-2004, coordinated educational workshops for the ACE and SER meetings.
Dr. Acquavella is an ACE Fellow and a winner of the 1989 Lilienfeld Student Prize paper awarded by the Society of Epidemiologic Research. He is a reviewer for several journals including: Epidemiology, American Journal of Epidemiology, Annals of Epidemiology, Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Annals of Occupational Hygiene.
In 1997, Dr. Acquavella published a paper entitled “The Politics of Identity in Epidemiology” (see Annals of Epidemiology 1997;7:431-433) in which he argued that judging epidemiologists or their research by their affiliation was a negative influence in epidemiology. He continues to work to develop opportunities for collaboration between industrial, government, and academic scientists. |
