| Dr.
Camargo is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology
at Harvard University, Emergency Physician at the Massachusetts
General Hospital, and Research Epidemiologist at the
Channing Laboratory, Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
His
interest in epidemiology began in college when
he led several alcohol studies at the Stanford Center
for Research in Disease Prevention. At present, Dr Camargo
works clinically in an urban emergency department, and
has focused his research on asthma/COPD and public health
issues in the emergency department. He serves as PI
of the Emergency Medicine Network (EMNet), a research
collaboration with >100 North American emergency
departments. Dr Camargo also works on several large
cohort studies, looking at risk factors for asthma/COPD
in approximately 350,000 men and women. Dr Camargo’s
work is funded by grants from NIH, industry, and private
foundations (eg, EMF Center of Excellence Award). He
is an active contributor to the scientific literature,
and performs peer review for more than a dozen journals.
He is a member of the Cochrane Collaboration, and the
National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP)
Coordinating Committee. He joined the ACE Board
to pursue the broad legislative/policy issues that affect
the practice of epidemiology, and to promote member
participation in a variety of public health issues.
