Jorge M. Ibarra, M.D, M.P.H., is currently a Research Professor in the College of Health Sciences at The University of Texas El Paso; he is also the Co-Director of Mesa Public Health Associates, a consulting firm in Public Health and Epidemiology. His major research interest is the Health Disparities in Hispanics. He is currently studying the relationship between acculturation and mental health (depressive symptoms and behavioral symptoms), among Hispanics in El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juárez, México. Prior to joining UTEP, he served as Epidemiologist for Pima County in Tucson, Arizona, and was a Research Assistant at the University of Arizona, where he conducted research on Asthma in Children in the Border of Arizona and Sonora, Mexico. He has chaired and served on several NGO groups examining the health of minority populations in Guatemala and Mexico. He is currently the Chair of the Minority Affairs Committee of the American College of Epidemiology. |
